Acne prevention is about establishing good habits and following these seven rules will help you prevent your acne breakouts.

1. Don’t pick or squeeze

Whether you use your fingernails, a pin or whatever, this is not a good idea. By doing this you can force bacteria deeper into the skin making the infection worse. You also risk damaging the surrounding tissue which means that you increase the chance of having a permanent scar.

2. Keep Your Hand Off Your Face

Every time you touch you face, such as resting your chin in your hands or just rubbing your eyebrow you risk forcing bacteria into the pores of your skin. We all have bacteria that live on our skin, including P. acnes (the bacteria that causes breakouts). The bacteria only become a problem when they get stuck in a blocked pore or hair follicle.

3. Don’t Wash Too Often

Dirt is no what causes acne, washing your face more than twice a day won’t help. It will just dry out the healthy skin and could add further irritation to the inflamed areas. Regular over washing can also stimulate the over production of sebum leading to more breakouts.

4. Don’t Use Harsh Exfoliants

Gentle exfoliation is good for helping to prevent acne but you don’t want to use anything too harsh. Avoid anything like exfoliating cleanser that use almond or apricot pieces as the jagged pieces can tear or irritate any breakouts.

5. Avoid Products That Contain Alcohol

No just rubbing alcohol, but some toners contain a lot of isopropyl alcohol. The alcohol is used in these product because it is a strong astringent which takes off the top layer of skin, unfortunately it also makes the oil glands in your skin produce more oil. So although this may seem to be a good idea, it will just make the normal parts of your skin dryer and the oil part oilier, not a good result

6. Shower after working out

Sweat producing exercise is good for acne, provided that you shower as soon as possible afterwards. Sweating is a natural way to clean your pores, however if you don’t shower soon afterwards the warmth of your body combined with moisture is an ideal place for bacteria to breed and spread.

7. Be Consistent

Even if you are have a good skin day don’t neglect you acne prevention regime. If you are prone to breakouts is the consistency of you prevention regime that will give you the best results. A breakout can be forming as long as two week before you see the result on the surface. So don’t be lulled into thinking you don’t need to keep up your good habits, as soon as you start to see results.

Following these 7 important rules is the best way to clear up your skin. Acne has many causes and we are all individuals, so different things affect acne for different people however the rules above can help to anyone who suffers from acne, prevent breakouts.
